This is my high milage 1990 535iA. You can see from this chart of milage vs time when the car changed owners. I got the early data points from a carfax report. Original owner drove about 16,000 miles a year. Second owner drove 29,000 miles a year since June of 1997 with only one tow-in break down. I recently took over care and hope to get two more years on the original engine.
It is quite possible to run an e34 past 200,000 miles. Here is what it took:

Stone from a truck chipped left front turn signal lens. When I replaced the lens, the bulb socket snapped. About an hour later the my left rear marker lamp failed. Turned out that bulb socket was corroded. Another trip to the dealer and another easy repair.
2/3/01 Brakes were occasionally pulling to the right under light braking. I suspected a stuck caliper or binding brake pads.
Can feel something sticking in the brake pedal. Flushing the brake lines helped.
3/4/01 Neverending Brake Job
10/10/01 4 new Bilstien HD shocks, fix leaking tranmisson lines and power steering lines. Work done by Harrison Motor Sports
in Roswell GA.
10/31/01 New sun visor finally arrived at dealer. Replaced the broken one during lunch.
7/15/02 Oil Service. Harrison Motor Sports again.
